The Background

The architecture team

Your organisation may have a team dedicated to architecture or you may get along with key people in the IT department while some of the architecture activities are either managed informally by others or simply not done.

In fact, some question the need for architects at all and in many organisations they may have a relatively low set of capabilities that delivers limited benefits for the organisation. That does not mean however that an effective architecture would not have a significant transformative effect to the organisation but simply that the team capabilities may simply match the level of many other areas.

But if you consider for a moment that you may have many different teams covering marketing, sales, service, contact centre, finance, IT to name just a few, then any of these areas that excel can have a positive influence to the organisation. An excellent marketing team can bring in more and more business while a finance team can ensure that the finances are well managed to support the organisation.

But an organisation is only as good as its combined capabilities and in some cases only as good as its weakest team or capability (if that falls in the value chain). Yet there is one team that can help identify and analyse each area and put in place steps to bring up all of the key teams and that is the architects.
